2018/19 FA Cup Fifth Round Review

Friday night saw an all-London tie as top flight Watford edged a 1-0 win over Championship side Queens Park Rangers. The vital goal came just before half-time as Etienne Capoue struck for the Hornets.

Another top flight-Championship clash in the Saturday lunchtime clash saw Brighton & Hove Albion claim a 2-1 win over Derby County.  The hosts struck an opener through Anthony Knockaert on 33 minutes before Jurgen Locadia doubled the lead before the interval. The Rams had hope late on as Ashley Cole struck on 81 minutes but to no avail.

League One side AFC Wimbledon exited the competition after a 1-0 loss to Championship side Millwall. The crucial strike came with just five minutes on the clock from Murray Wallace.

Manchester City extended hopes of a quadruple with a comfortable 4-1 win over League Two side Newport County. Leroy Sane put City ahead six minutes after half-time before Phil Foden doubled the lead on 75 minutes. Padraig Amond cut the gap on 88 minutes before a second Foden strike confirmed the win seconds later, Riyad Mahrez adding a fourth in added time.


Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their great cup run with a narrow 1-0 win over Bristol City. The Wolves claimed the win with a strike on 28 minutes from Cavaleiro.

Crystal Palace also reached the next round after a 2-0 win at League One side Doncaster Rovers.

Jeffrey Schlupp put the Eagles in front inside eight minutes and the win was wrapped up ahead of the interval after Max Meyer's strike.


Swansea City eased into the quarter finals with a 4-1 win over Brentford. The visitors struck first through Ollie Watkins before gifting the Swans a leveller just after half-time in Luke Daniels' own goal. The hosts led four minutes later as Daniel James made it 2-1 before Brentford suffered a double blow, Ezri Konsa being dismissed before Bersant Celina made it 3-1 minutes later. The rout was completed in added time by George Byers' effort.

The final tie of the round saw Manchester United pile more pressure on Chelsea with a 2-0 win on Monday night. Ander Herrera put the visitors ahead on 31 minutes before Paul Pogba doubled the lead just before half-time.

2018/19 FA Cup Fourth Round Replays Review

A fifth round tie at Swansea City awaits Brentford after they claimed a 3-1 win at home to Barnet.

An early opener from Canos wad added to just after the half-hour mark by Jeanvier. The tie looked to be safe on 71 minutes when Maupay made it 3-0. The visitors had the last say on the score though with Tutonda striking for 3-1.

Free scoring Manchester City paying a visit is the reward for Newport County in the fifth round after they stunned Middlesbrough.

Second half strikes from Willmott (47) and Amond on 67 minutes secured a famous win for County.



Top flight Watford await Queens Park Rangers after they claimed a 2-0 win over Portsmouth.

The 2009 winners exit the competition after conceding twice in the final 20 minutes with Nahki Wells and Smith scoring for the hosts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will visit Bristol City after edging a 3-2 win over Shrewsbury Town.

The hosts raced into the lead with Doherty scoring inside two minutes before Shrews levelled though Bolton on 12 minutes. A strike six minutes ahead of the interval from Laurent put Town ahead but they went in level after Doherty's equaliser. The win was sealed on 63 minutes as Cavaleiro struck for 3-2.

West Bromwich Albion will be cursing their luck after suffering a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Baggies opened the scoring with 13 minutes left of the 90 through Bartley before Brighton forced extra time with Andone's leveller and they took full advantage in extra time with an 11 minute brace from Glenn Murray setting up a visit from Derby County in the fifth round.
