A closely fought first half saw the hosts take a 1-0 lead into the interval as Idrissa Gueye tapped in after they had earlier had two goals disallowed for offside. Sunderland became the first team to score past Arsenal in nine league games as they sealed a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light. The hosts struck first with a superb close range strike from Dan Ballard on 36 minutes for a 1-0 lead and the sides were level on 54 minutes as Bukayo Saka hit in from close range for 1-1. Arsenal completed the turnaround on 74 minutes with Leandro Trossard finding the top corner from outside the area for 2-1 but their joy was soured deep into added time as substitute Brian Brobbey's acrobatic effort flew in for 2-2 and a share of the points.

The late-evening kick-off saw Chelsea record a comfortable 3-0 win over now managerless and winless Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge. A closely fought first half saw the sides remain goalless into the interval and the deadlock was broken on 51 minutes as Malo Gusto connected to a cross to head in and open his account for the Blues for 1-0. The lead doubled on 65 minutes with Joao Pedro fired in from around 12 yards for 2-0. The gloss on the win came on 73 minutes with Pedro Neto tapping in from an Alejandro Garnacho cross to wrap up the 3-0 success.

Super Sunday began with Aston Villa easing to a 4-0 win over Bournemouth at Villa Park.
