Eagles End Reds Run

Gameweek Six saw a few surprises namely a first loss at the top and first point at the bottom and all but one of the 20 teams scored.

Bees Sting Red Devils

The weekend began with Brentford easing to a 3-1 win over Manchester United at the GTECH Community Stadium on Saturday lunchtime. The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes with a brace from Igor Thiago (8,20)  United took just six minutes to hit back with a first goal of the season for summer signing Benjamin Sesko and had the chance to level in the second half after being awarded a penalty which saw Caoimhin Kelleher save from Bruno Fernandes' effort. The save did prove to be vital as the hosts wrapped up the win in added time with a superb third goal coming from Mathias Jensen for a 3-1 final score.

Seagulls Soar At The Bridge

Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind to seal a 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Blues struck first with a 24th minute opener from Enzo Fernandez before suffering a blow with the dismissal of Trevoh Chalobah on 53 minutes. The visitors' comeback began with Danny Welbeck levelling on 77 minutes before fellow substitute Maxim de Cuyper put them 2-1 ahead two minutes into added time and then Welbeck made it 3-1 in the 100th minute to complete the win.

Eagles End Reds Run

Crystal Palace extended their hoodoo over Liverpool with a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park which ended the Reds' perfect start. A rapid start from the hosts saw Ismaila Sarr continue his scoring streak against the Reds with a ninth minute strike and it looked to be enough to seal the three points but an 87th minute leveller from Federico Chiesa proved otherwise. However, the hosts scored a late goal of their own as Eddie Nketiah sealed the 2-1 in added time.

Cherries Late Show Halts Leeds

Bournemouth left it late to seal a 2-2 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road. The Cherries opened the scoring via Antoine Semenyo in the 26th minute only to be pegged back on 37 minutes by a Joe Rodon leveller for 1-1. Leeds completed the turnaround on 54 minutes through Sean Longstaff but were denied the win by an added time equaliser from Eli Kroupi for 2-2.

City Cruise Past Clarets

Manchester City eased to a 5-1 win over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium and they were gifted the opener with a Maxim Esteve own goal inside 12 minutes before Jaidon Anthony levelled on 38 minutes. City restored the lead through Matheus Nunes on the hour before a second own goal of the afternoon from Esteve made it 3-1. The win was wrapped up in added time as Erling Haaland struck a late brace for 5-1.

Black Cats Rise As Forest Fall

Sunderland continued their superb start to the season with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at The City Ground. The crucial strike came in the 38th minute as Omar Alderete slotted into the net to extend the hosts' poor run since their managerial change of five without a win.

Spurs Stun Winless Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers finally secured their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The visitors opened the scoring through Santiago Bueno on 54 minutes and they looked to be on for their first win of the season before being denied deep in added time as Joao Palhinha levelled for the hosts to seal the 1-1 draw.

Villa Cruise Past Cottagers

Aston Villa claimed their first win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday. A rapid start from the visitors saw Raul Jimenez give them a 1-0 lead inside three minutes. Villa hit back through Ollie Watkins on 37 minutes to make it level at the interval but they completed the turnaround with two goals in as many minutes with John McGinn (49) & Emi Buendia (51) wrapped up the 3-1 win.

Magpies Stunned By Gunners

Newcastle United's mixed season continued with a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies opened the scoring with summer singing Nick Woltemade striking in the 34th minute and the lead held until the 84th minute when Mikel Merino levelled for 1-1. The visitors completed the turnaround deep into added time with Gabriel Magalhaes sealing the 2-1 win.

Toffees Held By Hammers

The final game of the weekend saw Everton and West Ham United share the points in a 1-1 draw at Hill Dickenson Stadium on Monday evening. The hosts opened the scoring with an 18th minute effort from Michael Keane but had to settle for a share of the points thanks to Jarrod Bowen's 65th minute leveller.
