Gunners Top While Cats & Cherries Rise

Gameweek Nine proved to be a good one for home fans with seven home wins across the ten games while many games a single goal difference in a weekend with not a single draw.

Leeds Hold Off Hopeful Hammers

The Gameweek began with Leeds United securing 2-1 win over West Ham United at Elland Road on Friday evening. The hosts made a rapid start as Brenden Aaronson tapped in from close range for 1-0 inside three minutes and Joe Rodon doubled the lead with a flicked header from a corner for 2-0. The win looked under threat late on as Mateus Fernandes headed in for 2-1 which is how the clash ended.

Black Cats Stun Blues

Sunderland's superb start since promotion continued with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Blues went 1-0 ahead inside four minutes as Alejandro Garnacho collected a through ball to race towards goal before flicking in and the visitors drew level on 22 minutes with Wilson Isidor who tapped in from close range for 1-1. The sides looked set for a share of the points but there was late drama as Chemsdine Talbi (90) finished off a superb counter-attack to secure an historic 2-1 win for the Black Cats.

Magpies Edge Past Cottagers

Newcastle United returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win against Fulham at St James's Park. The hosts struck first with Jacob Murphy slotting in from the edge of the area for a 1-0 lead that lasted until the 56th minute when Sasa Lukic headed in to equalise at 1-1. The game looked to be heading for a draw but the hosts secured the win in added time as Bruno Guimaraes latched onto a rebound to slot in for the 2-1 victory.

Red Devils Delight Over Seagulls

Manchester United continued their recent good form with a 4-2 win in a thriller with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. A superb strike from the edge of the area by Matheus Cunha on 24 minutes gave United a 1-0 lead and they doubled that advantage on 34 minutes as Casemiro saw an effort deflect in for 2-0. The lead became 3-0 on the hour mark as Bryan Mbeumo curled from close range and the visitors staged a comeback with ex-United forward Danny Welbeck (74) swept a stunning free-kick in for 3-1 before Charalampos Koustoulas headed in for 3-2 in added time. The final say went to the hosts as Mbeumo clipped in his second and United's fourth for a 4-2 win.

Reds Stung By Brilliant Bees

Liverpool's woeful form continued in a 3-2 defeat to Brentford at the GTECH Community Stadium. A rapid start from the hosts saw Dango Ouattara latch on to a long throw to hit in for 1-0 with the lead doubled just before the interval as Kevin Schade finished off a counter attack for 2-0 but the score soon became 2-1 as Milos Kerkez tapped in for the visitors. The Bees restored their two goal lead on the hour mark via an Igor Thiago penalty and the visitors set-up a tense finish with an 89th minute strike from Mohamed Salah for 3-2 but in vain as they suffered defeat.

Cherries Extend Forest Woes

Super Sunday began with Bournemouth easing to a 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium against Nottingham Forest. The hosts struck first as Marcus Tavernier scored directly from a corner in the 25th minute and the lead was doubled on 40 minutes as Eli Kroupi fired in from distance for a 2-0 win that propelled them to second in the table.

Gunners Edge Past Eagles

Arsenal extended their stay at the top with a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium. The hosts struck the crucial goal in the 39th minute as Eberechi Eze volleyed in against his former club.

Victorious Villa End City Streak

Aston Villa boosted their form with a narrow 1-0 win over Manchester City at Villa Park. City's nine game unbeaten run was brought to an end by a 19th minute drilled strike from Matty Cash which proved to be enough for the 1-0 victory.

Winless Wolves Suffer Clarets Joy

Wolverhampton Wanderers remain without a win after losing out 3-2 in a thriller with Burnley at Molineux. A first half brace from Zian Flemming in the 14th and 30th minutes gave the Clarets a 2-0 lead which was cancelled out into the interval by a Jorgen Strand Larsen penalty on 42 minutes and leveller from Marshall Munetsi in added time for 2-2. The comeback proved to be in vain as Lyle Foster struck in added time to seal the 3-2 win for the visitors.

Spurs End Toffees Home Comforts

Everton saw their unbeaten home run come to an end at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. The visitors opened the scoring in with a Micky Van de Ven header in the 19th minute before he doubled his tally with a second headed effort in first half added time for 2-0. The gloss on a comfortable performance came in the 89th minute as Pape Matar Sarr fired in to wrap up the 3-0 win.
